probably a no-brainer

A few months ago I got an idea that I thought was pretty great. I'm sure many of you do something similar but for me this was the perfect solution to an obnoxious problem.

I created email accounts for both Jack and Violet so that I can keep a journal for them. I write them letters every so often and since it's via email it is quick to sit down and type about an event or a milestone. I also like it because I am not a scrap booker or a journal writer. It's nice to have somewhere private where I can tell them all the really special things. It's also nice to know that if I ever wanted to I could print the emails off and compile them or something. It's free and it's fast and Michael can write to them too. It may not be cute and crafty but it works for me.

What do you do along these lines for your kids?

i keep everything on my phone on my calendar. i also have a calendar on my computer that i quickly type in the big milestones, i do it in hopes that one day i'll get around to scrapbooking it or writing it down in a book or something.

Mine is just through my blog. Your email idea is a great idea though. I really like it. I might have to steal it.

hmmmm... for my kids (oh wait I don't have any yet...) I think that is a very smart idea Kat!!

Okay that dream is creepy! I always have dreams that I have a baby that is like a 4 year old girl already spoiled and naughty (yes she is always already yelling at me!) Maybe it's a sign that my kids are going to be total brats?

Your kids are adorable as always! Hopefully soon the first part of your dream will be true ;-)

What are they being for Halloween?

I think it's a great idea. My sister keeps a journal for her two kids and I admire it because I just have a hard time. I just write things on the calendar..like the day he started clapping or whatever. I have a scrapbook but it's one that you can get at Target or Walmart that you just glue pics in it and then it has the fill in the blank type questions and a place for you to write a letter and stuff. Nothing fancy.

I keep a journal on my computer. I have "intentions" of starting his scrapbook, but I have had those intentions for 11 months now. I think that is a really good idea to keep them separate and organized.

That's sweet and nice. We do nothing like that so now our children are going to grow up thinking we don't love them. Great. We just keep up with their baby books and Jason makes our blog into books, which is why its particularly boring this past year. Now that I know he's going to make a book out of it, I don't say much of what I would normally.

That is such a good idea! I'm like you, I'm not good at scrapbooking so this plan would definitely work for me. It would also be fun to have grandparents or other relatives share email notes too (like for birthdays or blessings...).

I write to my kids in a journal, the old-fashioned way. For some reason I don't mind sitting down to write but if I did it on the computer I would probably do it more often. Super mom idea!

I did start an email for both of them, but I don't usually write them e-mails. Maybe I should start. What I did do is start them their own private blog where I put up their monthly milestones, and all the pictures I want. Then when people do free photo books I print one out. So far I only have two books, one of Kalia's first year, and one of Annaliese's first year. They are only 20 pages each, but that's because that was the limit for free. I'm hoping to have a book printed for every year of their life, but I'll really have to stay on the ball with uploading stuff to their blog.

And when I say "people" I mean shutterfly, snapfish, walgreens, etc. I am always getting "Free 8x8 photobook, just use this code"...you know.

I think its a great idea, i have done something similar since Brea was born. I keep her journal on my desktop as a word document and write on it every few days or when she does something big. We will be happy we did it!!!
