I know that this is going to sound crazy but lately I can't stop thinking about cutting my hair. Short. Like really short. It is crazy coming from me because I am always so against anyone else doing it. My advice to anyone who wants to cut their hair is DON'T! DON'T! DON'T! Especially after having a baby! I don't know why I feel the need so bad?

It's true, I still have weight to lose but that is not what is driving this desire for such a change. And not to toot my own horn or anything but I get alot of compliments on my hair. Michael loves it and I feel prettier when I do it but I just have this stomach full of butterflies when I think about chopping it off. I just want to do it soooo bad! Have you seen that Diet Coke commercial? The one where the pretty brunette goes into the barber shop and points to the man's haircut? I love it! What about Ellen DeGeneres' new hair? Or Mia Michael's? I know these two women are lesbians and I am clearly not and don't really want to look like one but man! What I wouldn't give!

I also worry about not being girly enough. Like would I need to constantly be wearing feminine clothes and lots of makeup? I used to wear red lipstick in high school quite a bit, would I have to do something like that again? And then they always say, "it's hair! It will grow back!" but my hair grows soooooo slow. I don't know how many of you remember but the last time I cut my hair short was sophomore year of high school. I cut it into a "duck butt" and I have never had short hair since then and it is only this long. I mean, it took foreverrrrr to grow out and it was so awkward for a long time. Did any of you know me when I constantly wore "Kat balls"? That was not the best summer of my life.

See, I just don't know what to do! I want to soooo bad but I am sooooo scared. I also think that in order to pull this haircut off I would definitely have to get skinny. Like even skinnier than I was before I had the baby. Maybe I should do that first and as a reward I can chop it all off. I bet I would lose at least another pound! Ha!

I tried to create a link to that Diet Coke commercial so hopefully it works for you.

Do any of you remember when I was obsessing over getting bangs? This was the haircut that started that obsession. Since cutting bangs about a year ago I am in the process of growing them out and regretting having done it in the first place. And that was just bangs!

These are just examples of what I am thinking. Honestly, the best example is Lindsey William's from high school. You Timpview gals know who I'm talking about and if you're her friend on FB then you are fully aware of how awesome she looks with her fabulous haircut. Check it out to get the full idea of what I am dreaming of. If you don't know her hopefully these will suffice.

Here is a picture of Ciara before and after. Isn't she so stunning either way? What do you think? Does she look better short or long?

Ok so obviously I am not a super model turned singer or a lesbian or married to a sexy soccer star. I am just a mom and a wife. Is this so silly? Am I crazy for looking at famous people with distinct style and thinking I could do the same? I have a hard enough time trying to dress myself in something cute/age appropriate so maybe I should master that before I take such drastic measures. And what about the winter months when I am all pasty?! Am I going to look like a pale, drab, sad Mom who should just give up already and buy the Lee brand jeans with the elastic waist band? Ah! This is so hard! Then there is the issue of divorce. I seriously think that Michael might consider divorcing me! It sounds like a joke but it is almost that serious. He loves my hair. What do you think about this whole thing? Give me your opinion. I want it.

Well, I know that craving for change...you helped me do it! I went dark instead of cutting. lately I've been wanting to cut it, but several times since, I've been glad I didn't do it. I loved my dark hair for about 3 months. Now guess what? I'm craving change again, only I'm stuck with it for longer. Now I have to either cut it, or wait it out. So, having been where you're at, I'm going to have to vote NOT to do it, because I think you'll regret it later and it won't satisfy your craving to CHANGE. However, IF you decide to do it, I know you will look smashing because you have the gorgeous face and eyes to pull it off. So I'm kind of excited if you do it, but then again, I don't have to regret it later. But you might not regret it! Oh my gosh, I just remembered this awesome website where you can try on hairstyles of the stars. I am going to find it and post it immediately so you can already know how you'd look. And as a favor to me, you better post the picture on the blog (or email it to me) so I can see how you'd look too.

Did that comment even make sense? I just rambled on and ON!

Here's my thoughts.....
I think long hair is HOTT! Unfortunetly I can't have it because my hair is soooo fine/thin. So I have to go for short cuts. I have to blow dry and straighten my hair EVERYDAY. The option of just throwing it back isn't an option. So keep in mind that it might mean more time getting ready. I think short short cuts like the ones your talking about are fun, but it would be AWFUL growing it out. I think there'd be a long in between stage that would result in quite a few bad hair days. You know the ones that you take hours doing and it still looks like crap.
I say fo for somethng in between. some sort of bob that isn't too drastic, but gives you a little change. Once you've done that then you'll be able to go drastic like the ones you posted.
Good luck! Either way I think you'll look great so enough with all the crazy talk about being too pale, drab, or needing to shed more pounds. Don't get out your stretchy pants yet!

Okay, so is your comment about NOT cutting your hair after a baby directed to me? :) I TOTALLY felt the same way, but I NEEDED a change and I know EXACTLY how you feel, because I felt the same. I'm glad I chopped my hair because I don't have to wash it as often (score), I do it once for 4 days and rat it every day, and it's cooler on these hot summer days. Do I feel like I would look better with it if I were skinnier and more tan? YES!!!!!! and would it even look good on me in the pasty winter months.....who knows. But since I know you as much as I do, I think you could TOTALLY pull off that hair-do, because you got the attitude to go with it (compliment....take it as one). However, I just know you'll post a blog link a week after hating yourself and seeing a new wavy curly look for hair that you can't do anymore. IF you're going to cut it, I would totally ease into it and layer, or color, or bob it or something. Then NEXT summer right before tanning season comes and you'll be a year's worth of skinny, you'll probably feel better about it. Because you're right, winter pasty is coming. About Michael.....who knows, he totally might think you are HOT with short hair and didn't know it because he's never seen you! I'm sure Brooks likes it more because I do my hair more, but he would change the drastic A-line (he's traditional) and a little more blonde....but enough about me. YOu have the same shape face as some of those stars with the short hair, so I TOTALLY think you could do it. Honestly. Some of the prettiest girls I know have that haircut and I would LOVE to be able to pull it off! It's like they all have this confidence and pretty pretty look all the time! So I think you would look awesome. But considering you hated having bangs, this might just be too drastic for you.

But I secretly hope you do so I can see how hot you look with it! :)
BTW- I think that one star looks ALOT better with it short. BIG TIME!

I go through phases. I would love to have your hair! I always try and grow it out long, get annoyed with it and buzz it. This was my favorite hair cut I ever had. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30651085&id=193300765
And every week I want Mia's hair sooooo bad! The little faux hawk thing! I love it! I'm thinking about doing that too!

I would never be brave enough to do something so drastic;however, you have the personality to pull off something like that. I agree with Janae though that it might be too much of a change. So maybe go shorter and then if you are OK with that and you still have a husband, then go for the super short hair.

I think you would look great even in strechy pants but I don't think you will be needing them for years. :)

i have chopped all my hair off a number of times and have always regretted it. it does grow back though! my hair is super long now. I think you'll look cute no matter what you do, it feels good to spice things up for sure! no matter what, it will grow back!

I think those super short cuts only look good on 100 pound pixie like women, but that's just me. It would be nice to just wash and go though. I'm not going to go on and on, I'm a heartbreaker and am voting no to going that short. I once had my hair super short like that, everyone thought I was a boy. Sure I was only like 3 but whatever, that stuff sticks with you! I wanted to be just like my big brother!

It's funny you posted the picture of Victoria Beckham because I was just thinking that the haircut looked like David Beckham's hair, but for women. I like it. I think you could rock it. But I would never do it for myself. I really regret my MomChop.

Again I can't compete with this novels but I say Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Cut it into a bob or something first! Ease your way into it. Think about when it's not done and cute and you're workint out at the gym. What will you do then? Pin your bangs back? I don't know...I think save the short short hair for when you're old. That being said, you are beautiful and really will look beautiful in whatever you do. I remember the duck butt hair cut and you still looked beautiful.

KaSs MiLeS said...

ps, something i do when i want to cut it is i look at pictures of people with long hair, then i want that too. try it and see if it makes you want to grow it out...

I agree with Lindy. Maybe you just start with a cute bob first and go from there. You have the perfect shaped face for short hair but it's a drastic change so easing into it would be good.
I do remember your short hair in h.s. that's when you guys did the thriller dance, right?

Wow, you are getting all sorts of feedback. I say you will probably love it for a bit and hate it for a bit. That's the way any hair style is right? I chopped all mine off about 6 months into my marriage because I figured I wanted to spice things up and we were too newly wed for my husband to tell me that I looked fugly. I totally loved it for about a month and then it started to grow out and I felt like an ugly, fat, homely, freak...I have pictures to prove I was not completely off base in that thinking. The thing is, although I've never met you in person, you have a way thinner face than I do so you could totally pull it off way better. Now I'm so curious if you'll actually take the plunge...should I dare you to make you follow through with it?! :) oh and a second btw...tell Mikey I started training for the Sacto. marathon last weekend and I want to die already. I am totally obsessed with beating his time, I think I have a problem.

I remember your duck butt, it was cute on you I thought, and I don't think short hair is cute on most people. That being said, I know how you feel to want a drastic change, I always think I should cut my hair short, then I do, like it for a week and then I hate it, and end up growing it out again. I feel the same way about bangs, they always look better on other people. For me I love having long hair, and love pony tails and buns over having only the option of it just short. But that is just me.

The issue with short hair is that it IS more work - and to keep it looking cute, you have to have it cut every month or so. I guarantee that Mia and Victoria both have their hair "trimmed" about every four to six weeks. It's the only way to keep it looking good. Think about men's hair - I have to cut Jason's hair every month to keep it looking not shabby. And the growing out phases would be pretty yucky, too! If you think your hair grows slow, then think how much slower it will grow (or so it seems) when you just want some length!!

I think your hair is absolutely beautiful, woman! While you could pull it off, my suggestion? Don't do it!! I really think you'd regret it after you realized that it takes a lot more effort for it to look cute (and continue to look cute).

Try a bob - or just short enough to put into a little pony tail. That way if you're having one of those "days" you can put it back!

Good luck in your decision making. You'll be beautiful no matter WHAt you do.

And once again, you're ALREADY SKINNY!!!!!! If I hear you say that you aren't skinny one more time, I'm going to pinch you or something! :-)

Yeah dude, don't do it. I love Mia michaels hair, but she has a pro doing her hair every time.
Plus you take for granted how much easier it is to just pull back your hair when you don't feel like doing it. (I know because Carmen just chopped hers off)
I say invest in some super cute headbands from etsy.

I think you should cut it. I loved your short hair in high school...absolutely loved it. You are skinny enough so shut up about that already...you are a hottie! I think we are never fully satisfied with what we have...human nature. I go through the same phases...hate my long hair, cut it, love my short hair, hate my short hair, grow it out, and the cycle repeats. I have been dying to do a PINK faux hawk for ages now, and I love Mia's hair. I also want to cut my hair like Sonya on SYTYCD...no joke. If I was as Bad ass as her I would in a heart beat. So...do it. I think you would be super edgy and still just as gorgeous.

Salime said...

I say cut it :) yes, it is a drastic change, but it seems that that's what you want. A bob? please, no, don't do that. That is exactly the "no longer young and modern, but want to be conservative and classy mom look". Please, just don't. (not that I haven't tried the bob haircut, and I only liked it for 1 day). I think you will look amazing. or, ok, leave it the way it is. but no bob.

Haha I'm not all for mom's who cut their hair either! and I've refused to cut my hair short after my 2 babies because EVERYBODY does it. I hate doing what everybody else does, it makes me not want to do it even more! But I understand why mothers want to do it, everytime Ariana pulls out my hair(which is like every 10 secs.) I seriously want to chop it all off.

Having that said, if you do cut that that short...hmmm I can see you not liking it and regretting it right after only to realize it'll take like 3 yrs. to grow back. I remember you cutting your hair short but wasn't that in 8th grade? you looked super cute but I remember you complaining about it alot. I think with your face shape and your pretty face and your confidence and personality, you out of all ppl coule pull it off. BUT seeing you looking at celebrity's glamour shots, you'll be disappointed cuz they have a hair stylist and all that time in the world to style their hair. so NO ONE's hair is ever going to look as good as theirs. And you as a mommy of two, you got about 2.2 mins. to style your hair. ;)

I remember your hair. I'm thinking you'll regret cutting it. And being depressed about your hair and wanting it to grow out sucks. Especially because you know it will be months or years before it's long again. It is more convenient having short hair. I'd say don't cut it. I'm with Michael on this one.

Geeze Kat you have a big following on your blog, I stumbled across your blog awhile back and I check it out once in a while, I hope you don't think that's creepy. I just think your a really funny, entertaining blogger and its fun to read. The hair thing is tricky. If you cut it could you end up regretting it? yes for sure. Especially being a mom, I think long hair just makes you feel sexy and I think we all need that during those many unglamorous mom moments, ie your baby throwing up on you, cleaning toilets etc... BUT if you don't cut it its always going to be in the back of your mind that you want to, and it will probably just bug you until you do it. So all that said I would still say DON'T cut it, your hair is gorgeous. Geeze that was a long comment, neways thats my 2 cents

I think you should buy a real, super hot wig, then you can have the best of both worlds. (My mom had several CHEAP wigs when she was going through chemo, and they looked really good and quite real. So I bet a high quality one would be even better looking.)
