For my birthday this year we did the same old candles, cake and presents. It was nice and simple and relaxing. The one thing that was different this time around was having my mom here. It was like heaven on earth for 9 days. Michael was such a stud and did everything he could to afford my mom and I precious alone time. We actually shopped for over 5 hours straight on two separate occasions. Boy was it exhausting, wonderfully exhausting.

I missed one this year. Must be why I haven't gotten that Mercedes yet.

Don't let the pathetic appearance of this cake fool you. It is delicious. It is technically Red Velvet even though it looks kinda brown. I think when the recipe calls for 2 oz of food coloring, it's a good idea to add that much instead of worrying about the potential health risks of using two ounces of food coloring. Check out the recipe here, you won't be disappointed.

These next few photos are the progression of Jack trying his best not to spoil the surprise of my birthday gifts, which all turned out to be cookies, which he was more excited about than me, which in turn made me tickled pink.

The one gift I did ask for were some cake plates from Costco. They are so adorable and come in either white or a teal blue. I exchanged the white ones for the blue ones and I am in love. The best part was when Jack got excited because he thought there was cake in the box along with the cake stands. If he isn't a bonafide sugar-holic than I don't know who is.

Here is baby girl pretending to be Egor or Quasimodo or any other semi-challenged character you can think of.

And here she is stealing the show by playing peekaboo with a paper sack. Cuteness at it's finest.

I really did have a great time bringing in my 26th year but next time around, I'm gonna make a big stink. I'm going to wear a crown or a sign and tell everyone, even random strangers it's my birthday. I'm going to have a party with cake and balloons and lots and lots of friends. I haven't had that since I was 15 so I'd say it's probably time. It's the one day of year you can be totally into yourself without people telling you that you're conceited. I'm gonna do it and you're invited. Mark your 2011 calender for April 5th. Kat's huge birthday bash.

Happy Birthday!

BTW, when consuming things like CAKE, the health concern about food coloring should have been more of a non-issue, right? :)
